BioDanza

Connect with Your Deepest Self

Pilar Guia

Biodanza is an expressive arts system that incorporates music, movement and authentic relationships with self, others, and the world to support health, joy and being fully alive. Based on anthropological studies of dance and traditional rituals of the celebration of life, Biodanza claims to stimulate community, awaken a consciousness for universal solidarity, help participants to recover their joy and vitality, and celebrate the sacredness of life.

The system was developed in the 1960s by an anthropologist in Chile, Professor Rolando Toro, and there are now schools for teachers all over the world, with regular congresses in Europe and South America. Participants dance for many hours to music with a trained facilitor providing a thoughtful progression of songs with a thematic idea. During the dance participants dance alone and also pair up and touch each other, which is the main feature of this form of dance.

The London Biodanza says: "The dances connect us with our deepest self, connect us with others, tap into our vital energies, re-awaken our instincts, integrate our yin and yang energies, and give expression to our naturally warm, playful and joyful selves. There are no steps to learn, the movements are very simple and no one has to go beyond their capabilities."
