Our Passion to Serve
Don and Erendira Abel are co-founders of “A Women's Wellness Center” in Chula Vista, California, which is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization they founded after Erendira was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003.
“I never thought it would happen to me because I, like many other women, thought I was well. Within a nine-month period I had surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. My experience with breast cancer gave birth to A Women’s Wellness Center.”
“My dream came true when the center opened its doors in February 2007. I know that it is by the grace of God that my life has been transformed, just as He transforms butterflies, and that the vision of a place for women helping women has become a reality.”
For their work in opening “A Women’s Wellness Center,” Don and Erendira have received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Bob Filner, a Certificate of Recognition from State Assembly Member Mary Salas and the California Legislature, the 2009 Channel 10 Leadership Award, and the South County Educational Ambassador Programs Award.
During Erendira's cancer treatment she started to do her own research and learned that we need to make life style changes in order to prevent degenerative diseases, to improve the quality of life for those diagnosed with a degenerative disease like cancer, lupus, diabetes, depression, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and to prevent a reoccurrence of cancer. These lifestyle changes include; managing stress, exercising, learning to change what we eat and everyone from infants to the elderly should be taking high quality pharmaceutical grade supplements. The services and products offered at A Women's Wellness Center are all based on the research that she found and that she continues to look for.
